We are very fortunate to have both Cannock Chase and Shugborough close by and SinCH is hosting two Green Drinks talks in March and April about what’s happening on the Chase.
We are also very pleased to team up with the Colwich In Bloom Group for another spring Litter Pick.
The Shugborough estate have also offered SinCH members a special tour of the new riverbank and wetlands conservation project which has been undertaken in partnership with the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

How the Cannock Chase National Landscape team works to enhance and protect the Chase
Tuesday 3rd March an evening talk – 7.30pm at Great Haywood Sports and Social club
Richard, the Land Management Officer at the National Landscape team, will talk about the special nature of the Chase and the current initiatives to protect and enhance its nature and heritage.
The Cannock Chase National Landscape is one of the nation’s most important protected landscapes. As such it is safeguarded in the national interest for its distinctive character and beauty.
Being the UK’s smallest mainland National Landscape doesn’t diminish its importance. Its varied landscape of elevated heaths, forests, and historic parklands, rich wildlife, and cultural heritage, provide abundant opportunities to experience ‘natural beauty’.
The Cannock Chase team collaborate with partners to coordinate conservation and enhancement of the area.
Hear about the initiatives to protect and enhance nature and heritage, and help people to discover, enjoy, and explore one of the UK’s finest landscapes.

Karen works with local landowners to develop projects funded by a government grant programme called Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL – “fipple”). She will show us some of the projects which have happened on and around the Chase.
Our communities have already benefited from 5 FiPL projects and Jacqui will also be giving us an update on how her FiPL funded nature work is developing.
Amongst the FiPL projects so far supported are:
• Hedgerow planting and laying
• Tree planting in hedgerows, copses, parklands and orchards
• Wetland restoration and creation, including scrapes
• Heathland restoration and meadow creation.
• Protection of wildlife, including surveys for priority species, and the installation of bird and bat boxes, insect and reptile refuges, and more.
•
A guided walk through Duck Covert on the Shugborough Estate

Saturday 16th May – meet at 10.00 outside the Shugborough reception building at the main car park
Greg, the Head Ranger, will guide us through an area of floodplain which is not open to the public.
Last year extensive wetland and river restoration work was undertaken to benefit nature and to be more resilient in the face of climate change.
See more information on this project here.
This will be a unique experience so don’t miss out!
